Brexit: One in Three Britons Want to Rejoin EU
YouGov Survey Reveals Growing Desire for Closer Ties
Findings Suggest Mixed Views on Post-Brexit Landscape
A recent YouGov survey has revealed that a significant minority of Britons now favor rejoining the European Union. As of late 2023, 31 percent of Britons expressed a desire to rejoin the EU, while 30 percent wanted to simply improve trade relations.
The survey, which polled 1,000 online British adults aged 18-75, also found that support for rejoining the EU was particularly strong among younger Britons. Among those aged 18-24, 44 percent said they would like to see Britain return to the EU.
The findings suggest that British public opinion on Brexit has shifted in recent years. In the run-up to the 2016 referendum, only 24 percent of Britons said they would vote to leave the EU. However, the vote to leave was ultimately carried by a narrow majority of 52 percent to 48 percent.
The YouGov survey is the latest in a series of polls that have shown growing support for rejoining the EU. A poll by Ipsos MORI in December 2022 found that 42 percent of Britons would vote to rejoin the EU, while only 32 percent would vote to remain outside.
The findings of these polls suggest that the British public is increasingly divided on the issue of Brexit. While some Britons believe that leaving the EU was a mistake, others believe that it was the right decision and that Britain should not rejoin.
